Psychology 4 Humans Telehealth Policy

Telehealth refers to appointments through video calls (or on rare occasions through phone calls). Telehealth services give more flexibility to how we can work with you. Telehealth is particularly important for people who may have difficulty getting to our office. Some factors need to be considered when using telehealth and are outlined in this policy.

Setting up telehealth sessions

Telehealth sessions require a device with an internet browser that has a stable connection to the internet. You will be provided with a link to the telehealth appointment. We are able to offer limited support to help you connect, but we do not have internet support knowledge. It is best to log on about 10 minutes early in case you have any technical difficulties.

Please choose a comfortable location for your telehealth appointment where you won’t be disturbed. The video call programs that we use have end-to-end encryption to ensure your privacy, but you will need to make sure your physical location is private.

Duty of Care

We have a duty of care to you. Telehealth introduces the possibility of situations such as calls dropping out or people ending calls early while they are upset. Before we arrange any telehealth appointments, we will ensure that we have:

·       A phone number to contact you on

·       Details of an emergency contact in case it is necessary for someone to check in on you or offer additional support

Telehealth service types

Some services may need to be modified for telehealth or may not be possible. For example, some forms of assessments may need to be conducted in person because they involve equipment. This will be discussed with you on a case-by-case basis.

Rebates

Telehealth appointments are covered by Medicare for rebates of the same amount as in-office appointments. To claim these rebates, you must have a current Mental Health Care Plan from a GP. For information about private health insurance rebates, please contact your insurance provider as cover varies greatly between services and plans.

Changes to this policy

We may change all or part of this policy as required. Any changes will be updated on our website. Where practical, we will try to contact you about any major changes to this policy. Continued engagement with the service will be considered tacit agreement with the updated policy.
